The silent failures
Multi-user QuickBooks fails in slow motion — and every one of these failure modes is documented across Intuit’s release notes and a decade of ProAdvisor field literature. None of them show up in a generic monitoring dashboard.
Workstations quietly end up on different maintenance releases of the same QuickBooks year — and Intuit's own release notes have documented crashes when a drifted workstation opens the company file. Cadence reads the real build on every machine and alerts the day they diverge.
ProAdvisor support literature calls Database Server Manager failure one of the most prevalent errors in QuickBooks history. It stops after a Windows update or an unplanned reboot, and the office finds out one workstation at a time. Cadence watches the service, the hosting mode, and who's actually hosting.
The .TLG grows until QuickBooks crawls, errors, or corrupts — and most owners have never heard of it. Cadence trends company-file and log growth so a 20:1 ratio is a graph you saw coming, not a crisis.
A real client workstation flapped fifteen times a week and renegotiated to a tenth of its link speed. Every tool called the network "up." Cadence measures latency, SMB round-trip, negotiated speed and NIC flaps between each workstation and the server — continuously.
QuickBooks backup jobs fail silently — a corrupted .QBB or a missed scheduled task, and the only way to know is to try a restore nobody ever runs. Cadence tracks backup recency from the server side so stale backups are a dashboard alert, not a discovery during a data-loss incident.
Why Cadence exists
A twelve-machine office had a front-desk station crashing six to eight times a day for weeks. The fleet had drifted across four maintenance builds — all reporting the same version. The actual fault was the print stack.
Generic monitoring never surfaced any of it, because generic monitoring doesn’t know what a maintenance build is, what QBDBMgrN does, or why a .TLG file matters. Who it’s for
Your RMM tells you Windows is fine. Cadence tells you what Windows can't: the real build on each workstation, crash trends over weeks, the database server's actual state, and whether the network path from that front-desk machine has been degrading for two days. Update control
Intuit requires every machine in a multi-user environment to run the same release — and gives you no tool to verify it. Cadence lets you lock an organisation to a known-good build. Anything that drifts raises an alert the same day, instead of surfacing as a mystery crash during month-end close.

Built to be trusted with nothing
The agent collects health metadata only: builds, crash signatures, service state, link quality, file sizes. It has no code path that reads transactions, payroll, customer data or company-file contents — and every machine gets its own revocable credential.

Cadence is built and run by Freeze Frame Solutions, an MSP in Anchorage, Alaska.
We built Cadence because a decade of field work left us with a folder of “mystery” tickets that turned out to be build drift, silent database server failures, and network paths nobody had measured.
